Goolabri
A place to gather
It began with a family. It grew around a shared passion. And today, it brings people together. For celebrations, conversations, ideas, music, learning and connection.

Our story
Begin with the overarching story of Goolabri — where it came from, who created it and how it has evolved into the place it is today.
Where It Began
Introduce the family origins of Goolabri:
-
Gordon, Linda and their family
-
The founding of the original thoroughbred stud
-
The creation of the name Goolabri, combining elements of the founders' names in keeping with the naming tradition of the thoroughbred industry
-
The property as one of the original properties in the area
-
The vision and ambition that led the family to build the business from the ground up
A Business That Evolved
Explain that Goolabri has never stood still. Over the years, the property and business have evolved through several distinct chapters — from thoroughbred stud, to country resort, to golf course, to the event destination it is today.
The timeline that follows this section can then tell each chapter in greater detail.
A Common Thread
Although Goolabri has changed considerably over the years, there is a common thread running through its history: people coming together.
The purpose and experience may have changed, but Goolabri has continually provided a place for people to gather, experience the property and share something together.
From a family thoroughbred stud to a place where people come together to celebrate, connect, learn, create and experience something special.
This establishes the overarching story before moving into the detailed Goolabri Timeline, which shows how each chapter of that evolution unfolded.

The family behind Goolabri
Built from the ground up by two parents and two sons.
Introduce the founding family and the people who continue to shape Goolabri today. This section should make the human story behind the property as compelling as the history of the business itself.
The Family Story
Tell the story of the family who built Goolabri from the ground up:
-
Gordon, Linda and their two sons
-
How the family established and developed Goolabri
-
The sons growing up in the business and learning every aspect of its operation
-
The family's hands-on involvement in building, developing and running the property
-
The personal connection the family has to Goolabri
-
How that connection has influenced the character, values and evolution of the business
-
The extraordinary achievement of creating and growing the property with a very small team, rather than a large corporate workforce
The emphasis should be on the fact that Goolabri wasn't simply purchased and operated by a family — it was built by them.
The people behind Goolabri today
We are a family business — our team spans three generations.
The People Behind Goolabri Today
Introduce the people who continue to run and shape Goolabri.
Include:
-

What family ownership means
This is the space to introduce the Services section. Briefly describe the types of services offered and highlight any special benefits or features. Encourage site visitors to learn more by exploring the full list of services offered.
Personally involved, not corporate
Decisions are made by people who know the property intimately and genuinely care about its future.
A personal relationship with clients
People aren't simply booking a venue; they're working with a team who takes a personal interest in their event and experience.
Pride in the property
Goolabri represents generations of family work, investment and commitment. That sense of pride is reflected in how the property is maintained and presented.
A hands-on approach
The family has always been directly involved in the practical running and development of Goolabri, and that hands-on spirit continues today.
A long-term commitment
Goolabri is more than a business or event venue. It is a family legacy and a place the family is committed to nurturing into the future.
A genuine welcome
Hospitality comes from having a personal connection to the place. The family doesn't simply manage Goolabri — they care about it, know it and want people to enjoy it.
Our place
4. Our Place
Tell the story of Goolabri itself — the property, its setting and the character that has developed over generations.
This should be a highly visual section, focused less on practical specifications and more on sense of place. Keep detailed facilities and venue information for the relevant Venue/Facilities pages.
The place
Explore what makes Goolabri distinctive:
-
The property and its history
-
The surrounding countryside and region
-
Its landscape and natural setting
-
Gardens and outdoor spaces
-
Buildings and architecture
-
The golf course and grounds
-
The relationship between the built and natural environment
-
Its atmosphere and character
-
Its location and relationship to Canberra
A place with character
The key idea is that Goolabri isn't simply a collection of buildings and facilities. Its character comes from the land, the buildings, the history and the people who have shaped it over generations.
Show how the property has evolved while retaining the qualities that make it recognisably Goolabri.
There's a difference between hiring a venue and arriving somewhere that has a story.
This section should communicate that sense of arrival — that guests aren't simply turning up at an event facility; they're entering a place with its own history, atmosphere and identity.
Visual direction
Use large, atmospheric photography throughout this section rather than relying heavily on text:
-
Wide landscape views
-
Gardens and mature trees
-
Architecture and distinctive buildings
-
Details that show the property's character
-
Outdoor spaces
-
Golf course/grounds
-
Seasonal imagery
-
People experiencing the property
The overall feeling should be “come and experience this place”, rather than “here are the things our venue contains.”

What matters to us
This is Goolabri's values section, but I'd avoid presenting it as a conventional list of corporate values such as integrity, excellence and innovation. Instead, focus on the principles that genuinely reflect who Goolabri is and how you want people to experience it.
Family
Goolabri began with a family, and that family spirit remains at the heart of the business.
Family ownership means taking personal responsibility for the place, caring about the people who visit it, and thinking about Goolabri as a long-term legacy rather than simply a business.
People First
We believe the best gatherings are about people, not packages.
Whether someone is celebrating a wedding, bringing a team together, attending a concert or taking time away on retreat, the experience should be shaped around the people and the purpose of the gathering.
Connection
At its heart, Goolabri is about bringing people together.
It's a place to celebrate, connect, learn, create, share experiences and make memories — and a place where people can step away from the everyday and spend time together.
A Place with Character
Goolabri has its own story, history and sense of place.
We want people to arrive somewhere that feels distinctive and memorable, rather than at a generic function centre. The property, landscape, buildings and history are all part of the experience.
Flexibility
No two gatherings are the same.
Weddings, conferences, retreats, concerts, workshops and private celebrations all have different needs. We work with people to make Goolabri work for their vision, rather than asking them to fit into a one-size-fits-all formula.
Authenticity
We want Goolabri to feel like Goolabri.
Our family history, the property, the landscape and the way we welcome people are all part of what makes the experience authentic. We don't want to manufacture a particular atmosphere — we want the genuine character of the place to shine through.
Caring for the Place
If this reflects the way Goolabri actually operates, include a section about looking after the property for the future.
This could encompass:
-
Caring for the land and gardens
-
Responsible management of the property
-
Preserving its character
-
Sustainability initiatives
-
Supporting the surrounding environment and community
-
Thinking about Goolabri as something to be passed on, rather than simply consumed
The overarching idea
Rather than making these feel like disconnected corporate values, they should collectively communicate:
We care about the people, the place and the experience — and we want Goolabri to remain a place with character for generations to come.

A Place to Gather
Subtitle Goes Here
This should be the emotional centrepiece of the About page and the natural expression of the Goolabri brand: a place to gather.
Rather than simply listing the types of events Goolabri hosts, focus on why people come together and what they come to experience.
Celebrate
Weddings, birthdays, milestones, family occasions and private celebrations.
Connect
Conferences, corporate gatherings, meetings and occasions that bring people and teams together.
Create
Workshops, creative events, learning experiences and opportunities to share ideas.
Listen & Experience
Music, performances, cultural events and experiences that bring people together through creativity and entertainment.
Retreat
Wellness, business, personal and group retreats — time to step away, reconnect and recharge.
The categories can be accompanied by evocative photography rather than detailed descriptions, keeping the section emotional rather than functional.
The idea that brings it all together
Whatever the occasion, there is a common thread: people coming together for something that matters to them.
Whatever brings you here, Goolabri is a place to gather.
This brings the entire About page full circle — from the family who built Goolabri, through its history and evolution, to the people who gather here today.

Our Community
8. Our Community
Show how Goolabri is connected to the people, businesses and community around it, rather than presenting it as simply a venue operating within the region.
For a family-owned business with such a long history in the area, this is a natural extension of the Goolabri story.
Our Local Connections
Where relevant, talk about Goolabri's relationships with:
-
Local suppliers and producers
-
Local businesses
-
Contractors and service providers
-
Local staff and employment
-
Event partners and collaborators
-
Community organisations
-
Canberra and the surrounding region
-
Community events and initiatives
Supporting the Region
Highlight the ways Goolabri contributes to and participates in the broader local community — whether that's through employing local people, working with local businesses and suppliers, hosting community events, or collaborating with regional partners.
The aim isn't to make this feel like a corporate “community impact” statement. Instead, show that Goolabri is part of the fabric of the region.
Its long history in the area, family ownership and connections with local people all contribute to a sense that Goolabri isn't simply located here — it's part of the place.

Custodianship
9. Custodianship
Given Goolabri's history and the fact that the property has been shaped and cared for by the family over generations, custodianship is a more meaningful concept than simply having a “Sustainability” section.
The focus should be on looking after a place that has been entrusted to the family and preserving it for the future.
This section should only include things that genuinely reflect how Goolabri operates.
Caring for the Place
Depending on what applies to Goolabri, this could include:
-
Land management
-
Caring for gardens and grounds
-
Conservation and protecting the natural environment
-
Water management
-
Waste reduction and recycling
-
Responsible development and maintenance
-
Local sourcing and suppliers
-
Preserving the character and heritage of the property
-
Looking after the buildings and landscape for future generations
A Long-Term Perspective
The story here is particularly powerful because Goolabri wasn't created overnight. It has been built, developed and cared for over decades.
That creates an opportunity to talk about the family as custodians of the property, with a responsibility to balance its history with its future.
Goolabri has been shaped over generations. Our role is to care for it, protect what makes it special, and continue its story into the future.
This also connects beautifully with the broader About page narrative:
Built by a family → evolved over generations → cared for today → here for generations to come.

Weddings & Celebrations
Weddings, birthdays, milestones, family occasions and other celebrations.

Conferences, meetings, team gatherings, launches and corporate experiences.
Private Functions
Social gatherings, parties, dinners and special occasions.
Music & Cultural Events
Concerts, performances, festivals and cultural experiences.

Creative, educational, professional and hands-on workshops.

One place. Many ways to gather.
This also reinforces the central brand idea:
Whatever brings you here, Goolabri is a place to gather.

2. The Goolabri Story — Our Timeline
2. The Goolabri Story — Our Timeline
Make this a prominent, highly visual section rather than burying Goolabri's history within the surrounding prose.
The timeline should show the evolution of both the property and the business, giving visitors a sense of how much has been created and how dramatically Goolabri has evolved over time.
A Journey Through the Years
THOROUGHBRED STUD
The Beginning
Goolabri began as a family thoroughbred stud, established by Gordon, Linda and their sons. The name Goolabri was created by combining elements of the founders' names, following the naming tradition of the thoroughbred industry.
This was the beginning of the property and the foundation for everything that followed.
↓
COUNTRY RESORT
The Next Chapter
The property evolved beyond the thoroughbred stud and opened its doors as a country resort, welcoming guests to experience Goolabri's landscape, hospitality and unique rural setting.
↓
GOLF COURSE
Expanding the Experience
Goolabri continued to evolve with the development of the golf course, creating a new way for people to enjoy the property, its landscape and its surrounds.
↓
EVENT VENUE
Goolabri Today
Today, Goolabri has evolved into a versatile destination for weddings, conferences, private functions, music events, workshops, retreats and other gatherings.
The property continues to adapt to the ways people want to come together, while retaining the character and history built over generations.
Different Chapters. One Constant.
Bring the timeline back to the overarching Goolabri story:
Different chapters. One constant: a place to gather.
Dates & Historical Detail
Include the actual dates or years prominently once the history has been verified.
For example:
[YEAR] → Thoroughbred Stud
[YEAR] → Country Resort
[YEAR] → Golf Course
[YEAR] → Events & Experiences
I'd prioritise historical accuracy over filling every date. If an exact year isn't known, it's better to use a broader period such as “The 1980s” or “The early years” than to imply a date that isn't certain.
Visual Treatment
This section could be one of the strongest visual elements on the page, using archival photographs alongside contemporary images to show the transformation:
Then → Now
Old photographs of the family, stud and original property can transition into photographs of the resort, golf course and today's events.
That visual evolution will help visitors appreciate just how extraordinary the journey has been — from a family building a thoroughbred stud from the ground up to the multifaceted Goolabri people experience today.

Who we are
Goolabri is an authentic family business and home which spans three generations. Our family are our key staff, and our new staff become family too.

Where we've come from
Goolabri was started with a dream, by Gordon & Linda Luton many years ago. It has evolved over time to what it is today.

Where we're going
This is the space to describe the service. Focus the description on how customers or clients can benefit from using this service: explain how it solves a problem, or makes life easier or more enjoyable.
Be sure to include all the relevant details users will want to know, like pricing, duration, and location. If they'll need to prepare or bring anything with them, let them know here. Give users an idea of what to expect from the service and tell them how to book it.

Why we do what we do
We love people. We love community. We love connection. And we love doing what we love. Through hard work we have created this little piece of paradise from nothing and we appreciate it most when we get to share some of the joy that it brings.
